A man was killed and another was critically injured in an explosion while the two were allegedly making crude bombs in North 24 Parganas district’s Haroa village on Sunday in rural polls-bound West Bengal. The incident took place at Suripukur in Shalipur village panchayat area, police said.
The deceased was identified as Paritosh Mondal. His family said that he was a member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and he was allegedly murdered by Opposition parties.
According to sources, Mondal was a resident of the Kuchemora area falling under the Haroa police station. Locals said Mondal and one other person were allegedly making crude bombs in a small storehouse on Sunday night when there was a sudden explosion. “The two injured persons were rushed to the Basirhat sub-divisional hospital where one of them was declared brought dead. We are investigating the blast,” a police officer said. Police said the other injured person was brought to a hospital in Kolkata for further treatment.
Mondal’s family alleged that Opposition parties wanted to kill him as he was a TMC worker. “He was not into manufacturing bombs…He had a head injury. I want severe punishment for those who are behind his death,” said one of Mondal’s relatives.
Police also said the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. As per police, Mondal had multiple injuries on his body. “A probe is on. Whether he was killed or died in a bomb explosion would be known after the investigation,” said a police officer.
Meanwhile, police recovered bombs from the rooftop of a school in Birbhum district’s Dubrajpur. Police said four bombs were recovered from the roof of Adampur Primary School. The bomb diffusal squad reached the spot and diffused the explosives.
