The Deonar police arrested four people for allegedly killing a 25-year-old woman and injuring her mother on Tuesday night after they could not turn up for the funeral of their relative.

A police officer said the brother of one Krishna Pawar (27) passed away on Tuesday and his funeral was held on the same day.

According to complainant Anjali Bhosale, whose family also lives in the same area, they could not attend the funeral, due to which Pawar got infuriated. Pawar, along with his relative Jagmitra Bhosle (35), attacked Bhosale’s mother with a sharp weapon.

When Bhosale’s sister came to their mother’s rescue, Pawar stabbed her repeatedly, killing her on the spot. When Anjali and her brother tried to intervene, the wives of the two accused– Anita (32) and Aatesha (25)—hurled stones at them.

Acting on Bhosale’s complaint, police arrested Pawar, Jagmitra Bhosle and their wives.

Police have registered a case against the four accused under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
