All former Prime Ministers of India were “unsuccessful” in bringing an international semiconductor manufacturing firm to India, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said on Thursday, asserting that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed this week between the Gujarat government and US firm Micron for a Rs 22,500-crore plant in Sanand was due to the “vision” of PM Narendra Modi.

Speaking at Vadodara, where he inaugurated projects of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) worth Rs 293 crore, Patel said it is “impossible for India to lag behind” in any field with PM Modi’s “good governance”.

“In the last nine years, PM Modi has shown the country what good governance is. Gujarat signed an MoU with (US firm) Micron, which is a matter of pride for us,” Patel said.  “This is the benefit of the double-engine government under the leadership of PM Modi. Every Prime Minister tried to get this manufacturing company to come to India but no one was successful. Only Narendrabhai achieved success. It is a benefit of his visionary leadership. He always has a forward-thinking mind. During his US visit, the Parliamentarians of that country stood up 15 times to applaud him. It is a matter of pride for the 140 crore people of India. When we have such a leadership, it is impossible that we will lag behind in anything,” the Chief Minister insisted.

Patel added it was due to the “politics of development” introduced by PM Modi that the infrastructure has become a talking point in the country. “Earlier, it would be news if an area was to get a power connection. Now, when there is a power outage, it becomes big news. These roads, hospitals, and power… all this is development. Modiji has taught us what is the politics of development and what good governance really means,” he asserted.

The VMC projects worth Rs 293 crore include the groundbreaking of a sewage treatment plant of 21 MLD capacity in Undera, and a drainage line between Gorwa and Undera. Water tank, underground pump, delivery network, and pumping house for Bhayali and Sevasi TP-2 as well as Vadadla and Bil areas are among other drainage and projects of newly included areas of the outskirts in the VMC limit.

Patel also inaugurated six completed projects of water networks in the Vemali and Harni-Darjipura areas. The Chief Minister also inaugurated an MRI centre at the SSG Hospital in Vadodara where the state government has sanctioned an MRI machine worth Rs 9.39 crore.  Those holding BPL cards can avail free MRI scans while other patients will pay Rs 2,000 per scan as compared to a cost of  Rs 2,500-15,000 in private imaging centres, a release from the hospital said.

Later, Patel also inaugurated the office of Sayajigunj MLA Keyur Rokadia and praised the former Vadodara Mayor for “deploying technology” at his new office as directed by BJP state chief CR Paatil.
