Are you at a loss for words when your brothers, husbands, or boyfriends appear wearing worn-out shorts and a t-shirt full of holes? You’ve exhausted every possible approach, but nothing seems to make a difference. Don’t worry, because we are here to simplify dressing this summer season for the men in your life—and for you as well.
Colours
Lakshmi Lehr, who has styled Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kiara Advani, Rashmika Mandanna, and Janhvi Kapoor among others, suggested that you can incorporate pastels and light-coloured outfits into your summer wardrobe.
She explained that there’s nothing wrong with having classic colours like black, white, and blue if you’re a fan of them, but in addition to them, you can add other colours to your wardrobe. “Opt for pastel shirts or T-shirts, you can even add a salmon pink T-shirt to your summer colour palette,” Lehr added.
Fabric
In India, where summers oscillate between desert dryness and tropical forest humidity, stylist Sheefa Gilani, renowned for her work with Mrunal Thakur, Manushi Chillar, and Vir Das, suggested that the perfect fabric to wear is cotton. This is because “it allows air to flow in and around the skin, creating a cooling effect while keeping you dry.”
Gilani also recommended wearing linen as it is breathable, summer-friendly, and sometimes, sweatproof. “Button-downs in linen are a great addition to your summer clothing,” she said.
Agreeing, Lehr recommended buying linen jackets and pairing them with a T-shirt and denim as they’ll instantly uplift your look from casual to sophisticated.
Jeans and shorts
For those of you who can’t part with your denim jeans, Gilani suggested opting for the light-coloured ones as they’ll give a summery look overall. “Opt for chinos as a stylish alternative to denim. Pairing a navy blue chino with a shirt can create a polished and put-together look,” Lehr added.
Gilani said that you can even wear shorts, but not the very short kind. Invest in longer khaki ones and keep them classic, she suggested. “Baseball caps can also be worn as they are both practical and fashionable,” the stylist added.
Accessories
According to Gilani, accessories are a great way to add personality to your outfit. “Consider adding jewellery like a beaded bracelet or chain necklace to your warm-weather look.”
On a sunny day, wearing a pair of sunglasses can significantly enhance your look, Lehr added.
Rain gear
As for the shoes, the proper footwear can make or break a man’s summer outfit. “Opt for rainproof shoes and ditch your flip-flops,” Gilani said, adding that they can not only ruin your look but also have you rolling your ankle on a rainy day.
With the rains marking a splash in most cities, having a solid set of rain gear around is a great choice. Since you’ll only wear it a few times a month, your rain gear will last several years. So invest in high quality and an excellent fit, Gilani said, recommending investing in a bright, hooded, rain-proof jacket as a pick-me-up.
