TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee hit out at the BJP-led Centre for allegedly withholding the state’s share of funds under various welfare schemes and said that after the panchayat elections over 10 lakh people from West Bengal would march with him to Delhi to demand their rightful share.
The three-tier panchayat elections would be held in West Bengal on July 8 with the counting of votes on July 11.
Addressing a rally in Barbani area of Paschim Bardhaman district on Friday, Abhishek said, “We have to take a pledge that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central government, which has stalled rightful dues of the state under various schemes, should not get a single vote in the panchayat polls. Those who want to deprive Bengal (of funds) should be shown through the power of vote that the people of the state do not bow in front of outsiders from Delhi.”
“After the panchayat elections, we will march to Delhi along with 10 lakh people to protest against the BJP’s discriminatory policies against Bengal,” said the Trinamool Congress leader.
“They (Centre) have blocked Rs 7,500 crore under the 100 days of work scheme only for Bengal and no other state. This is nothing but political vendetta against the people of Bengal, who rejected the BJP,” he added.
“Those who haven’t received funds for Awas Yojana or the 100 Days of Work scheme should know that as soon as panchayat polls are over, we shall head to Delhi to fight for our rights…It will be my responsibility to organise the movement and take everyone to Delhi. All we need is people’s support. If required, I will sit in front of Krishi Bhavan on an indefinite agitation. We won’t leave Delhi until our dues are released by the Centre,” said Abhishek. The TMC MP from Diamond Harbour also targeted the Centre over fuel costs. “Where is BJP’s acche din (good days)? Petrol used to cost Rs 50 per litre but has now increased to Rs 100 per litre. Kerosene which was worth Rs 15 once has now gone up to
Rs 120.”
Citing examples of the welfare schemes launched by the Mamata Banerjee-led state government, Abhishek said, “The Mamata Banerjee government is providing Rs 500 per month to women under the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme and Rs 1,000 to women belonging to the SC/ST communities. On the other hand, Modi government is snatching Rs 1,000 in the name of linking of Aadhaar and PAN cards. People have to decide whom to support – the one who is helping them or the one who is looting them. They have to decide whether they will support development or tyranny.”
Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Abhishek said, “Two days ago, the Prime Minister said that he is taking action against the corrupt…Those who were seen taking money on camera are senior BJP leaders…Sudipto Sen wrote letters against senior BJP leaders Himanta Biswa Sharma and Suvendu Adhikari – one is the chief minister of a state and the other is Bengal’s Leader of Opposition… Their double-engine government means double the theft and loot through ED-CBI and state police.”
Sudipto Sen is the main accused in the 2013 Saradha chit fund scam. In the case, various companies, including Saradha, allegedly duped investors of around Rs 10,000 crore through a ponzi scheme.
