BJP: Without central forces near booths, TMC will indulge in large-scale rigging

BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar Saturday targeted the ruling TMC and said if central armed forces are not deployed near polling booths, the Mamata Banerjee-led party will “indulge in large-scale rigging” during the July 8 panchayat elections.

Majumdar was speaking during an event in Kolkata. “The role of the State Election Commission is not above suspicion. It is not playing the role which it is supposed to play. If central armed forces are not deployed in polling booths then the TMC will indulge in large-scale rigging. They will loot votes,” said the BJP MP from Balurghat.

Talking about the BJP’s manifesto for the rural polls, Majumdar said, “If we get the majority, we will set up skill centers in different zila parishads to train people, so that they do not migrate to other states in search of jobs. We will also set up krishi kalyan kendras in different blocks for farmers.”

When asked to comment about the alliance between the Congress and the CPI(M), the BJP leader said, “Other Opposition parties like CPI(M) and Congress are also facing atrocities from the ruling party. Our ideological stand is different from that of CPI(M) and the Congress…However, there can be some local-level understanding in some pockets to defeat the TMC.”
Reacting to the BJP’s state chief’s comments, TMC MLA Tapas Roy said, “Their claims have no significance. They will not win zilla parishad seats as they do not have the support of the people. Every day, some leader or the other from the BJP is misleading the people.”
