The Patiala police on Monday arrested a man, and two of his aides, for allegedly killing a woman, chopping her body into pieces, and then trying to set it on fire.
Police identified the victim as the arrested man’s mother, Paramjit Kaur, who they claimed had refused to give him money for buying narcotics, leading to the incident. Investigators said that the accused, identified as Gurwinder SIngh alias Ginda, later also confessed to them about having killed his stepbrother and dumping his body in a canal.
Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Varun Sharma said that the police had received a complaint in the case from one Bhagwan Singh of Kangla village. Bhagwan, in his complaint, had stated that his cousin sister, Paramjit Kaur, of Kangthala village, and her younger son, Jaswinder Singh alias Yodha, had been hacked to death by her elder son Gurwinder Singh alias Ginda, who was a drug addict.
Police said that when a team reached Kangthala on Sunday, Paramjit’s half-burnt skeleton was recovered from the house, with investigators also noticing several blood stains on the floor. A police officer said that it looked like somebody had made an effort to burn the body using kerosene oil, said police.
SSP Sharma said that after preliminary investigations, Gurwinder and two of his aides — Rajinder Singh alias Raja, and Ranjit Singh alias Rana — were arrested. An FIR against them was registered under sections 302, 201 and 34 of the IPC at Patran Police Station.
SSP Sharma said that during interrogation, Gurwinder confessed that on June 25, around 10 am, he along with two of his accomplices, first hacked his mother Paramjit Kaur to death with a sharp-edged weapon. Then on the same day around 1 pm, they killed Jaswinder Singh (20) when he returned home. Later, around 11 pm, they loaded Jaswinder’s body in a car and dumped it in a canal near Khanauri. After returning home, the accused proceeded to chop up Paramjit’s body into pieces and tried to set it on fire by pouring kerosene oil on it.
Investigators said that Paramjit Kaur was first married to one Janpal Singh, with whom she had conceived Gurwinder. After her divorce from Janpal, she got remarried to one Raghbir Singh, who passed away in 2011. Paramjit had conceived Jaswinder during her second marriage.
SSP Sharma said that the accused so far had confessed that they were drug addicts. Gurwinder used to ask for money from Paramjit to buy drugs, but she refused. Jaswinder supported his mother in the decision, enraging Gurwinder, who then planned to eliminate both, said a police officer.
