The Army evacuated around 1,000 people from a village as the Ghaggar river touched the 16-feet mark and reported breaches at two places on Monday.
At least 25 people were rescued from Khajur Mandi village by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Monday morning. The village was inundated with river water.
Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain said that a breach had occurred near Alamgir village due to rise in Ghaggar water. She said that in the wake of this, Sadhanpur, Dhandera, Khajoor Mandi, Tiwana and Alamgir villages were inundated due to which teams of NDRF and Army were roped in. She said that the situation was under control and no loss of life was reported due to the breach.
She stated that the administration has arranged buses on time and evacuated people on time. Relief and rescue operations were being overseen by Derabassi Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Himanshu Gupta. She said that to ensure a comfortable stay for evacuated people, elaborate arrangements have been made at relief camps in Jashan Palace near Lalru and the city resort.
About the water level in the Ghaggar river, the DC said that it touched the 16-feet mark on Monday and an alert had already been sounded in the low-lying areas. SDM Gupta said that people should not panic as the administration is committed to evacuating people to safe places. As many as 65 women and children were shifted from Tiwana village to Jashan Palace on Sunday. He said that NDRF had shifted 25 people from Khazoor Mandi village to a safe place. Once the water in Ghaggar recedes, action will be started to plug this breach. He said that the administration is keeping a strict vigil over the entire situation.

People evacuated from outside the zoo
At least 10 houses located outside the Chattbir Zoo were evacuated. No loss was reported in the area. A breach was reported at Banur-Landran drain which was plugged.
