After two days of torrential rains in Delhi, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that the evacuation of people from low-lying areas around Yamuna will start once the river touches the 206-metre mark. “Predictions indicate flood situation won’t arise,” he said, whilst stating that the government was closely monitoring the situation and was fully prepared to tackle it. Kejriwal also said potholes on Delhi roads will be filled with stones to prevent accidents, and that NDMC has been asked to resolve waterlogging problems faced by residents. Further, he said that there will be an inquiry into the incidents of roads caving in.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena Monday directed the government agencies concerned to take “immediate action” regarding rain-related contingencies in the capital as and when a continuous spell of rain lash the city.
The L-G’s instructions came with the Yamuna river in spate and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate rainfall for Delhi on Tuesday with schools up to class 5 being asked to shut.
