Now in its eleventh year, the Cryptic Singh National Crossword Contest is back to serve its signature dose of puns, anagrams and topsy-turvy trivia. Run by Extra-C Patna, the event will be divided into three stages, with prelims starting from July 16 on crypticsingh.com
Students from any recognised Indian board can compete in teams of two for this contest, which tests one’s memory, vocabulary and wordplay skills.
For Stage I, an empty crossword grid with clues will be uploaded on the CCCC website at 2pm on three consecutive Sundays (July 16, 23 and 30). Students will have to fill this grid by 5pm on the same day.The cumulative scores from these rounds will be used for judging, with the top 100 pairs moving onto Stage II. The top 20 teams at the end of each round will also qualify for this stage, adds Raj Narayan Singh, the National Coordinator.
Stage II will be held as either face-to-face online or entirely offline rounds in select cities, depending on the number of teams and host institutes. Stage III will be the National Grand Finale, traditionally held in New Delhi. Last year’s winners were Kuhu Goel and Ashish M. from DPS Pune, who will likely put up a strong defense for 2023.
