Bridging tradition and modernity, the Indian fashion world has seen a transformation with the rise of designers who redefine bridal couture. With a keen eye for intricate craftsmanship and an innovative use of materials, one label stands out for its pioneering 3D embroidery and the signature rose gold hues that have become synonymous with contemporary luxury. The brand’s founder, Masumi Mewawalla, has cultivated a reputation not only for impeccable design but also for overcoming the complexities of establishing a strong presence in a competitive market. Through blending heritage and cutting-edge fashion, the brand has established itself as a leader in high-end bridal fashion, captivating brides seeking timeless elegance with a modern twist.
Early Influences and the Turn to Design
Masumi Mewawalla’s entry into fashion was not the result of a conventional career path, but the outcome of a series of creative roles that shaped her understanding of visual expression and audience connection.
“Honestly, I never thought I would end up owning two fashion brands and a label, especially since I didn’t come from a traditional fashion background,” she says.
Her early exposure to performance and production—acting from the age of three, and acting on the soap opera Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi from Star Plus as Savri Virani. Her acting career was then followed by her work in choreography and catering—provided a practical education in presentation, timing, and detail.
The shift toward fashion design was triggered by a personal project.
“The real turning point was when I felt this strong urge to design a saree for my mum on her wedding anniversary,” Mewawalla explains. “That experience sparked my interest in fashion, and from there, it just kept growing.” she adds.

What began as an emotional gesture gradually evolved into a focused professional pursuit. Today, Mewawalla oversees multiple fashion ventures, channeling her multidisciplinary background into a business defined by both creative vision and entrepreneurial rigor.
Her label, Masumi Mewawalla, once known as Pink Peacock Couture, now stands as a pillar of luxury and innovation, recognized for pushing boundaries while staying rooted in tradition. Mewawalla’s ability to blend meticulous embroidery with modern silhouettes has not only earned her critical acclaim but also established her as a leading figure in the world of bridal fashion.
Masumi Mewawalla Signature Aesthetics and Design Philosophy
Innovation in Indian bridal couture often requires a careful balance between reverence for tradition and the pursuit of distinction. For Masumi Mewawalla, that balance is achieved through a deliberate and research-driven design process. Her signature use of rose gold tones and 3D embroidery is more than a stylistic choice—it is a strategy to carve out a unique visual identity.
“The use of rose gold tones and 3D embroidery in Indian luxury couture wear has always been an expression of my desire to offer something unique,” she says.
Mewawalla attributes her creative evolution to a disciplined approach that combines trend analysis with hands-on exploration.
“I focus on deeply researching, traveling, and exploring new design techniques,” she explains.

This method allows her to integrate modern sensibilities into traditional forms, adapting to shifting consumer preferences while maintaining the craftsmanship that defines her label.
“By understanding market dynamics and integrating modern styles with our signature embroidery, I aim to keep our creations fresh while preserving their original essence.”
In doing so, she continues to push boundaries in a space often defined by convention, offering collections that are both rooted and forward-looking.
Balancing Heritage and Modernity
Preserving the integrity of traditional craftsmanship while appealing to the evolving tastes of modern brides is a central focus of Masumi Mewawalla’s design philosophy. Her commitment to heritage, particularly in hand embroidery, is both technical and personal.
“My design journey is deeply rooted in a love for Indian tradition seen via a modern eye, particularly hand embroidery, which I approach with precision and emotion,” she says.
Mewawalla achieves this balance by integrating time-honored techniques with contemporary design elements and silhouettes. Her collections span bridal wear, couture, prêt, trousseau, and statement pieces such as pre-draped sarees and structured corsets—each designed to speak to a new generation of clients without compromising on cultural depth.

“By blending traditional techniques with modern elements and detailing… I aim to preserve heritage while creating silhouettes that resonate with today’s silhouttes,” she explains.
The result is a body of work that honors India’s artisanal legacy while remaining relevant in an increasingly global and style-conscious market.
Building the Brand: The Reality of Building a Fashion House
Establishing a fashion label without formal training in the industry posed a significant challenge for Masumi Mewawalla. From the outset, she was aware of the scale and complexity of what she was undertaking.
“Not coming from a fashion background, the process itself was daunting,” she says. Her early efforts were focused on building foundational knowledge of the industry—understanding the end-to-end production process, sourcing materials, and assembling the right team.
“I had to first understand the entire concept and the intricate process of fashion. Then came the task of setting everything up—from finding hand embroiderers, karigars, and masters, to sourcing the right machines and materials.”
The logistics were only part of the challenge. Mewawalla also had to navigate the business side of fashion: hiring, marketing, vendor relations, and opening her own boutique. The work paid off.

“All these efforts culminated in hitting 1k to 2.5k orders per month,” she notes. Her ability to scale the business was rooted in persistence and belief.
“I firmly believe that if you respect your work, it will respect you in return.”
She credits her progress to a combination of hard work, faith, and family support, adding that external skepticism only strengthened her resolve.
“The challenges and doubts others had only fueled my determination to fight back and come back even stronger.”
Advice to Emerging Designers
For aspiring designers looking to enter a competitive and often unforgiving industry, Masumi Mewawalla offers a clear message grounded in experience and conviction.
“Stay true to your passion and never underestimate the power of persistence,” she advises.
In an environment where trends shift rapidly and visibility can be difficult to achieve, she emphasizes the importance of authenticity and self-belief.
Carving out a distinct voice, she says, begins with trusting one’s own journey.
“The fashion industry is competitive, but carving out a distinct voice starts with embracing your unique perspective and experiences.”

For Mewawalla, risk-taking and continuous learning are essential tools for growth.
“Don’t be afraid to take risks, trust your instincts, and always keep learning, know there is nothing to loose”
Her path—marked by determination, innovation, and a refusal to follow prescribed formulas—stands as a blueprint for others hoping to build a meaningful career on their own terms.
