The Speaker of the Bengal Assembly, recently suspended BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari for casting aspersions on the Speaker’s integrity during a session of the Assembly. However, a few moments later, he revoked the order. But the Speaker’s decision sparked widespread outrage and controversy, with many questioning the legitimacy of the Speaker’s actions.

Suvendu Adhikari is a prominent BJP MLA and a former minister in the Bengal government. He has been a vocal critic of the ruling TMC government in the state and has been at the forefront of the BJP’s efforts to unseat the TMC in the upcoming assembly elections.

The BJP legislators shouted slogans against the Mamata Banerjee government and staged a walkout during the governor’s address. Within a few minutes, after Bose began his address to the House ahead of the state budget next week, BJP MLAs led by Suvendu Adhikari started shouting slogans against the state government. They also protested against the governor for reading out a speech prepared by the state government which “has no relation with reality.”

During a session of the Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari made comments casting aspersions on the Speaker’s integrity, which led to the Speaker’s decision to suspend him from the Assembly. The Speaker’s decision was met with widespread criticism and opposition, with many political leaders and commentators questioning the legitimacy of the Speaker’s actions.

“This is one of the most corrupt governments in the state. We staged a walkout as there is no mention of corruption cases and arrest of TMC leaders in the speech,” Adhikari said. TMC chief whip Nirmal Ghosh accused the BJP of trying to disturb the assembly proceedings.

In response to the criticism, the Speaker revoked his suspension of Suvendu Adhikari moments later, citing the need for a peaceful and productive legislative session. The Speaker’s decision to revoke the suspension was seen as a victory for democratic principles and freedom of speech, as many saw the suspension as an attempt to silence opposition voices in the state.

The incident has highlighted the increasing polarization and tension in Bengal politics, as the state prepares for the upcoming assembly elections. The BJP and TMC have been engaged in a fierce political battle for control of the state, with both parties using every opportunity to gain an advantage over the other.
