On World Environment Day, PepsiCo India is marking the achievements made under its ongoing ‘Purna – Unnati ki Saajhedaari’ initiative in the holy cities of Mathura-Vrindavan. With a vision to transform Mathura-Vrindavan into one of India’s cleanest holy cities, PepsiCo Foundation, in collaboration with Recity Network Private Limited and Mathura Vrindavan Nagar Nigam (MVNN), launched the ‘Purna – Unnati ki Saajhedaari’ initiative in 2022. This initiative is focused on empowering waste workers and creating an effective waste management system that is circular, equitable, and inclusive.

By adopting a circular and inclusive approach to combat plastic pollution, PepsiCo Foundation, Recity, and Mathura-Vrindavan Nagar Nigam have successfully professionalized over 100 waste workers, reached out to more than 20,000 citizens, and engaged 10 lakh tourists and 7,000 school children in waste segregation practices. Additionally, 4,000 property units have been educated about waste segregation, resulting in the diversion of 500 metric tonnes of municipal waste.

In a statement, PepsiCo expressed its commitment to preserving and protecting the planet on this significant occasion of World Environment Day. The company acknowledges its responsibility towards the environment and believes in the power of innovation and collaboration to create a sustainable future. The dedicated teams at PepsiCo have been working tirelessly to develop groundbreaking solutions for reducing, reusing, and recycling plastic waste.

PepsiCo extends its gratitude to the Government of Uttar Pradesh for its unwavering support of the ‘Purna – Unnati ki Saajhedaari’ initiative and looks forward to further building on these remarkable achievements together. The company urges everyone to join hands in the fight against plastic pollution and work towards creating a greener future for generations to come.

The ‘Purna – Unnati ki Saajhedaari’ initiative is an essential step towards addressing the pressing issue of waste management and plastic pollution. By professionalizing waste workers and promoting waste segregation practices, the initiative is making a significant impact on the cleanliness and sustainability of Mathura-Vrindavan. Through collaboration between the public and private sectors, a holistic approach is being adopted to ensure effective waste management.

The circular approach focuses on the entire lifecycle of waste, from its generation to disposal, by promoting recycling, reusing, and reducing waste. This comprehensive model ensures that waste is not seen as a burden but as a valuable resource that can be utilized in various ways. By empowering waste workers and transforming them into waste professionals, the initiative not only improves their livelihoods but also contributes to the overall cleanliness and environmental well-being of the cities.

In addition to waste workers, the initiative has actively engaged citizens, tourists, and school children, creating awareness about the importance of waste segregation and responsible waste management practices. The involvement of various stakeholders is crucial in creating a sustainable waste management ecosystem that benefits the entire community.

The achievements made under the ‘Purna – Unnati ki Saajhedaari’ initiative demonstrate the positive impact that can be achieved through collaborative efforts and innovative solutions. By combining the resources and expertise of PepsiCo Foundation, Recity, and Mathura-Vrindavan Nagar Nigam, significant progress has been made in transforming Mathura-Vrindavan into cleaner and greener cities.
