In a unique initiative against drug abuse, students from Akal Academy schools in Punjab’s Bathinda Monday participated in ‘World’s Largest Online Hand Impression Campaign’.

The activity aimed to set records in both the World Book of Records, UK and the Limca Book of Records with approximately 1 lakh hand impressions, said Rajinder Kaur, principal of Akal Academy, Jaga Ram Tirath.

Children dipped their hands in vibrant acrylic colours as part of the campaign. These hand impressions were then photographed and uploaded to a dedicated web portal managed by the Kalgidhar Trust.

The event witnessed a turnout of 2,883 students from various Akal Academy schools in the Bathinda district. The breakdown of participants from each school was: 909 from Jaga Ram Tirath, 560 from Kili Nihal Singh Wala, 497 from Bagha, 357 from Bangi Nihal Singh Wala, 324 from Damdama Sahib, and 236 from Dialpura Mirza, according to a statement.

Rajinder Kaur stated, “Akal Academy schools are always eager to engage in such impactful activities. We firmly believe that if children are instilled with strong values, especially the importance of staying away from drugs, at an early age, they will not only refrain from getting involved in drug abuse themselves but also inspire others to follow suit.”

Akal Academy is a chain of 120 schools in rural north India, dedicated to “promoting value-based education”.

“The ‘World’s Largest Hand Impression’ campaign is a potent reminder of our collective responsibility in combating drug abuse. By involving the youth in such meaningful initiatives, Akal Academy schools are fostering a generation that is aware, committed and determined to create a drug-free future for themselves and their communities,” said the press statement.
