A day after a building in Ghatkopar’s Rajawada Colony collapsed, leading to the death of two persons, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Monday that it would write to the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), urging them to take action on dilapidated buildings.
Speaking to The Indian Express, a senior official from the corporation’s N ward, comprising Ghatkopar and Vidyavihar, said that there are 88 such buildings in the area where the incident took place.
“The plot in Rajawada Colony where the building stands belongs to the MHADA. Since they are the planning authority, we will write to them asking to review the structural stability of these buildings to prevent future catastrophe,” said the official, request- ing anonymity.
