Filmmaker Om Raut’s big scale epic Adipurush, which had a flying start at the box office 11 days ago, is now crawling. The film, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan, had a disastrous second Monday. According to early estimates, Adipurush managed to earn just Rs 1.75 cr on day 11 in the Hindi belt, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk.
The film has been witnessing a free fall right after its first weekend, which brought in a humungous Rs 113 cr in Hindi. Due to poor reviews and controversy over its dialogues, the film was mired in negativity from the day of its release. The Hindi occupancy of Adipurush on its second Monday was around 8 percent.
The film’s all India total now stands at around Rs 277 cr– a huge number which falls drastically short in comparison to its production budget, which is reported to be around Rs 500 cr. Adipurush is likely to wrap its Hindi lifetime collection with under Rs 150 cr, emerging as a flop at the box office.
According to a report in Money Control, Adipurush will record an overall loss of Rs 200 cr. Amit Sharma, Managing Director of Miraj Cinemas was quoted as saying, “The film had the potential to do double the business it has done till now.”
The collections refused to pick up even after the makers changed its controversial dialogues–penned by Manoj Muntashir–and slashed the ticket prices to Rs 150 and then announced a further reduction with tickets available at Rs 112. The offer started from Sunday.
Adipurush marks the third consecutive flop for Prabhas after Radhe Shyam and Saaho, as the actor has failed to repeat the box office charm of his historic blockbuster Baahubali: The Beginning and it sequel Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. He will now eye the perfect comeback with KGF director Prashanth Neel’s Salaar, expected to release this September.
Production house T-Series, meanwhile, will await the release of their next biggie Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and headlined by Ranbir Kapoor. The film will release on August 11.
