The All India Power Engineers’ Federation (AIPEF) has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Power Minister R K Singh that the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2022, which was referred to the parliamentary standing committee on energy for examination, should not be rushed through the coming monsoon session of Parliament starting on July 20.
This decision was taken in the federal council meeting held in Karnataka on Saturday. The meeting was chaired by Shailendra Dubey and attended by delegates from UP, Uttaranchal, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Maharashtra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, among others.
In the meeting Dubey said that although the Lok Sabha had referred the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2022 to the standing committee on energy, hitherto the House panel has not held any discussions with power employees or electricity consumers who are the biggest stakeholders, according to AIPEF spokesperson V K Gupta. In the release P Rathnakar Rao, secretary general of AIPEF, said that a failed model was being introduced in the power sector in the name of reforms and financial viability of discoms.
