With the Indian Air Force authorities submitting a proposal for expansion of the Indian Air Force Heritage Centre in Sector 18, Chandigarh, under phase II, the work is all set to begin in two weeks. The phase II has already received clearance from the Indian Air Force headquarters.

At a meeting held here between the UT Administration and the Air Force authorities chaired by UT Adviser, it was discussed that the project will be completed within six months. A presentation was also given during the meeting where officials put forth a detailed plan for the expansion which will be named the “Indian Air Force Aerospace and Technical Centre”.

The new wing will be constructed in an adjacent hall, covering an area of approximately 13,000 square feet. It will feature an array of technology-based and electronic systems, simulators, and aero engines.

The phase II will have advanced technology-driven features and experiences, aimed at inspiring young individuals to join the Air Force.

Since the inauguration of the centre on May 8, the centre has seen over 22,500 visitors.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had inaugurated the first phase of the Indian Air Force Heritage Centre in Sector 18.

The 200-second virtual reality experience is one of the highlights at the centre. A MiG-29 aircraft of the Indian Air Force gradually takes to the skies from the Chabua air base in the Northeast and speeds towards a Chinese airbase. A little while after lifting off, the bombardment at the Chinese airbase begins. This is just one of the scenes that has been created apart from other theaterisation.

A souvenir shop equipped with the IAF’s memorial and scale models has been set up. A theme-based cafe is also operational for the public. A one-foot wall with pictures of 58 vintage and retired aircraft has also been set up.
