Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 Gets ‘A’ Certificate with No Cuts; CBFC Recommends Over 25 Modifications

New Delhi, August 1, 2023 – Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is set to make a comeback with the satirical comedy-drama OMG 2, directed by Amit Rai. After a series of critical and commercial failures, Kumar hopes to make a mark with this film, which also stars acclaimed actors Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam Dhar, Govind Namdev, and Arun Govil in pivotal roles. OMG 2 is slated for release on August 11.

As the film gears up for its release, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted OMG 2 an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate without suggesting any cuts, but it has made over 25 recommendations for modifications.

OMG 2 narrates the tale of Kanti Sharan Mudgal, an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva living in the temple town of Ujjain. During a critical moment, the deity manifests before him, assisting him in resolving the challenges he faces.

Earlier this month, the makers of the film unveiled a one-minute-26-second teaser, offering a glimpse into the world of OMG 2 and introducing key characters. Akshay Kumar portrays the role of Lord Shiva, while Pankaj Tripathi plays a devoted follower. The film also released a powerful track titled “Har Har Mahadev,” showcasing Akshay Kumar’s powerful tandav as Lord Shiva, with multitudes of worshippers celebrating in high-energy dance sequences.

However, as the film prepares for its release, it has encountered controversy following a demand from a priest at Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar temple. The priest, Mahesh Sharma, called for the deletion of scenes filmed at the shrine, expressing concern that they may offend the religious sentiments of viewers. He stated, “The censor board has given ‘A’ certificate to the film Oh My God 2. This certification is reserved for films that have adult content. We demand that some scenes, which were filmed at the Mahakal temple, be removed as they might offend the religious sentiments of viewers. If our demand isn’t met, we will launch protests across the country.”

Despite the potential controversy, Akshay Kumar’s choice to make OMG 2 a stand-alone sequel to his 2012 blockbuster, OMG – Oh My God!, appears to be a prudent decision. His recent film, Raj Mehta’s Selfiee, faced a dismal performance at the box office, grossing only Rs 24.6 crore worldwide against a budget exceeding Rs 100 crore.

As the release date draws near, fans eagerly await the return of Akshay Kumar in this much-anticipated sequel. OMG 2’s satirical comedy-drama approach and talented ensemble cast are expected to resonate with audiences, making it a pivotal film for Kumar’s career resurgence.

While the CBFC’s recommendations for modifications have yet to be disclosed, the film’s makers and actors are likely to navigate the situation with sensitivity and respect for religious sentiments, ensuring a smooth release of OMG 2 and an enjoyable cinematic experience for audiences.

As the clock ticks down to the release date, Bollywood enthusiasts eagerly anticipate witnessing Akshay Kumar’s portrayal of Lord Shiva in this comedic yet thought-provoking sequel. OMG 2 promises to offer a fresh take on religion, spirituality, and human devotion, enthralling audiences with its humorous and enlightening narrative.
