Alaya F, the granddaughter of veteran actor Kabir Bedi and daughter of Pooja Bedi, recently opened up about nepotism in a new interview. Although Alaya does acknowledge that she comes from privilege, she refuses to be labeled a ‘fully nepo baby’ and explained that there are different levels of nepotism.
In her recent interview, Alaya F expressed her frustration with people who speak about nepotism without understanding that there are levels of privilege. Alaya said that she did not grow up attending industry parties and her mother had quit acting before she was born. Alaya’s mother, Pooja Bedi, was a well-known actress who has appeared in films such as Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar and reality TV shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and Khatron Ke Khiladi.
Alaya F made her acting debut with Jawaani Jaaneman in 2020, co-starring with Saif Ali Khan and Tabu. She has since appeared in films such as Freddy with Kartik Aaryan and Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat. Although she acknowledges that coming from privilege has helped her get into certain rooms, she insists that merit is what takes one ahead.
The young actress revealed that her mother Pooja had quit acting before she was born so she has not grown up among industry parties.
Elaborating further, Alaya added that at the end of the day, she does come from privilege and that’s half of someone else’s journey. She also admitted that it does get her into rooms but it doesn’t really guarantee her movies. She concluded by saying that to reach there is the hardest part.
The actress went on to add that while she does get access, it is solely merit that takes a person ahead. According to her, she is a nepo baby, but everything she has done cannot be credited to where she comes from.
Alaya F is gearing up for the release of her upcoming supernatural thriller ‘U-Turn’, which also stars Priyanshu Painyuli, Ashim Gulati, Manu Rishi and Rajesh Sharma.
Alaya F is an actress who believes in hard work and has been continuously doing good work. While it’s true that coming from a privileged background has given her certain advantages, it doesn’t mean that everything she has achieved has been handed to her on a silver platter. As she said in her interview, “reaching there is the hardest part.”
Alaya F is currently shooting in England for Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bade Miya Chhote Miya where she is paired opposite Tiger Shroff. The ‘Freddy’ actress was barely 14 when she faced the camera for the first time for a TV show called Maa Exchange. The show was all about two mothers living in each other’s house for a weekend following all the rules set by the original mother. Talking about this in an interview with a news portal, Pooja said that she was proud of her daughter who stood up for her and supported her. Pooja also explained that Alaya felt strongly about anything that would go against her self respect. When fans heard about this incident, a lot of people commended Alaya for taking the stand.
Alaya F’s upcoming projects include U-Turn, produced by Ekta Kapoor and directed by Arif Khan. The film also stars Priyanshu Painyuli, Ashim Gulati, Manu Rishi, and Rajesh Sharma. She also has Bade Miyan Chote Miyan as one of her upcoming projects.
In conclusion, Alaya F’s thoughts on nepotism are a reminder that not all ‘nepo babies’ have the same level of privilege, and it’s important to acknowledge that there are different levels of nepotism. While she may have had certain advantages because of her background, she has worked hard to prove herself as an actress and deserves recognition for her talent and dedication.
