Andaz Apna Apna is a cult classic Bollywood film that was released in 1994. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film starred Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, and Shakti Kapoor in lead roles. Despite having an ensemble cast and being a well-made film, Andaz Apna Apna was a commercial failure at the box office. Over the years, the film has gained a massive following and is considered a cult classic, with fans eagerly waiting for a sequel or a remake. However, in a recent interview, director Rajkumar Santoshi has shut down any possibility of a remake and has also decoded the reason behind the film’s failure.
In a recent interview, Rajkumar Santoshi revealed that the reason behind Andaz Apna Apna’s failure at the box office was the lack of promotion. According to Santoshi, neither Salman Khan nor Aamir Khan were in the city to promote the film, which led to a lack of buzz around it. He said, “We didn’t have the kind of promotions that are done today. Neither Salman nor Aamir were in town. If the two had been in town, the scenario would have been different. Today, we have a big media and publicity machinery. But back then, we didn’t have it. So, the film wasn’t publicized properly.”
Santoshi also said that despite the film’s failure at the box office, he never lost hope and continued to believe in the film. He said, “I always believed that the film would become a cult classic. It was a film ahead of its time. It had a very different kind of humour and a very different kind of treatment. I always knew that people would eventually appreciate it.”
When asked about the possibility of a sequel or a remake, Santoshi categorically stated that there was no chance of it happening. He said, “Andaz Apna Apna is a cult classic. You cannot remake a cult classic. If you try to do that, it will fail miserably. The film has its own identity, its own charm. It cannot be recreated.”
In conclusion, Andaz Apna Apna may have been a commercial failure when it was released, but over the years, it has become a cult classic and a favourite among Bollywood fans. Director Rajkumar Santoshi has decoded the reason behind the film’s failure and has also shut down any possibility of a remake. While fans may be disappointed that there will be no sequel or remake, they can take comfort in the fact that the original film will always remain a classic.
