Mari Selvaraj’s political thriller Maamannan holds significance for everyone involved, particularly producer-actor Udhayanidhi Stalin. It serves as Udhayanidhi’s last film as an actor before fully transitioning into his political career. With the movie garnering tremendous praise from all quarters, Udhayanidhi couldn’t be happier as he bids farewell in the most gratifying manner possible.

Meanwhile, buoyed by the success of Maamannan, Udhayanidhi recently gifted a luxury car to the film’s director Mari Selvaraj as a token of gratitude. Taking to Twitter to share his happiness over the film’s success, Udhayanidhi wrote, “Everyone discusses it differently. They share ideas relating their thoughts to the story and the field. It has become a hotly debated topic among Tamils around the world. Our leaders like Ambedkar, Periyar, Anna, and Kalaignar have inculcated the sense of self-respect and social justice thoughts in the young generation. A huge commercial success as well. @RedGiantMovies_ Company is pleased to present a Mini Cooper car to @mari_selvaraj sir. Thanks to my Mari Selvaraj sir for giving wings to ‘Mamannan’ to fly around the world.”

According to reports, Maamannan is expected to achieve success at the box office and has already amassed approximately Rs 23.79 crore. Released on June 29 (Thursday), the film minted about Rs 6.75 crore on the first day, industry tracker Sacnilk reported. While the movie’s collection witnessed a minor dip on the second day, with the film earning only Rs 4 crore, Maamannan bounced back on Saturday and eked out Rs 6.25 crore. After garnering approximately Rs 6.79 crore on Sunday, the film is expected to earn Rs 3.85 crore on Monday.

In Tamil Nadu, the film had 57 per cent occupancy on Day 1, a significant number for a mid-size film like Maamannan. Apart from Tamil Nadu, the movie also had a good response in Kerala and Karnataka, according to film trade analysts.

Also starring Vadivelu, Fahadh Faasil and Keerthy Suresh in prominent roles, Maamannan has music by AR Rahaman.

In his review of the film, The Indian Express’ Kirubhakar Purushothaman wrote, “Maamannan is, perhaps, the weakest film of Mari Selvaraj despite the director being unabashedly open about his political affiliations.”
