Warning the state administration against meting out “excesses” to his party supporters in the run-up to the panchayat elections, Leader of Opposition in Assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday said that BJP workers will not tolerate “police rule” in the Junglemahal area of West Bengal.

The BJP MLA from Nandigram met the family members of party candidate Suvankar Mahato who was allegedly beaten up by police in Jhargram. He wrote on Twitter, “Earlier in the day, I campaigned in the Junglemahal area. Before campaigning, I visited the home of Suvankar Mahato; @BJP4Bengal Candidate of the Jhargram District Zilla Parishad (Seat No 11) who was manhandled & beaten up by the Officer In-charge of Sankrail Police Station Khandkar Saifuddin Ahamed.”

Mahato, the BJP candidate for the zila parishad seat number 11, was allegedly beaten up by Sankrail police station Officer In-charge (OC) Khandkar Saifuddin Ahamed. Adhikari campaigned for the party’s nominees in Jhargram and Paschim Medinipur.
