The bodies of an underage couple were found hanging in a public park in Sector 33 on Sunday.
Police identified both the victims and ruled out any foul play behind the deaths. They maintained that the two were in a relationship which was not acceptable to their families.
The hanged bodies were spotted by a morning walker in the park who alerted the local police. The police said that the underage girl and boy hanged themselves with the help of dupattas which were tied with iron frame of a shed in the park. The police said that documents were found in the possession of victims which enabled the cops to identify them. The victim girl was a housemaid in Mohali. The victim boy was a daily wager staying in Sector 44.
A police officer said, “The family members were informed about the deaths of boy and girl. They were natives of UP. The two wanted to tie the knot with each other but were opposed by their families. The girl’s mother will reach Chandigarh from UP tomorrow. The boy’s parents are in Chandigarh. The bodies have been kept in GMSH-16 mortuary.” A forensic team and finger expert team inspected the spot.
The police initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.
