The Hindi film industry experienced a bumpy ride in the first quarter of 2023, with most movies failing to make a splash at the box office. After an unremarkable 2022, hopes were high for a successful start to the new year, but unfortunately, most films failed to recover their base costs. The only silver lining came in the form of Pathaan, starring the iconic Shah Rukh Khan, which managed to salvage the situation.

Costing approximately ₹250 crores, Pathaan’s success at the box office was nothing short of phenomenal. The film earned ₹542 crores in the domestic market and crossed the ₹1000 crore mark globally. The buzz around the movie was so high that theaters even ran early morning shows to balance out the record-setting advance sales of tickets.

Pathaan broke several records, with an opening day earning of ₹57 crores, the biggest for any Hindi release in India. The weekend numbers were even more impressive, with ₹280.75 crores being raked in. By the end of week 1, Pathaan had grossed ₹378.15 crores, followed by ₹458.90 crores in week 2, ₹505.85 crores in week 3, and a final total of ₹542.75 crores by the end of week 8.

The film’s performance wasn’t just limited to India; it had the highest-grossing opening day, single day, and weekend for any Indian film in the UK so far. Pathaan also became the fastest Hindi film to hit the ₹100 crore, ₹200 crore, and ₹300 crore marks.

Overall, the first three months of 2023 were a tough time for the Hindi film industry. However, Pathaan’s remarkable success at the box office brought some much-needed relief, proving that when it comes to cinema, Shah Rukh Khan remains the king of the industry.
