The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking to formulate a policy for its retired players for participation in overseas T20 leagues. There is no policy at the moment and the board is keen to have one. The Indian Express understands that players who retire will now have to undergo a cooling off period which the Apex Council is going to decide upon. It is learnt that there has been a suggestion of a minimum one year cooling off period, however, the Apex Council will be discussing this with its members during its meeting on July 7.
The Indian board has kept it at number three on its agenda, dubbing it “Item No. 3: Policy for retired players for participation overseas.”
There have been instances in the recent past where former India players have announced their retirement and have joined a T20 League the following week. With so many leagues coming up throughout the season, the former players have been offered a heavy pay cheque to play in these leagues. BCCI fears this could create a big problem going ahead and it is important to have a cooling off period.
In another point of agenda, the BCCI will discuss participation of the BCCI teams in Asian Games for both men and women. The Indian Express had earlier reported how BCCI has decided to send its Indian B men’s team and Indian women’s team to take part in Asian Games to be held in October.
The Apex Council will also discuss, “Playing conditions for Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Tournament (Impact Player Rule).”
The Impact player rule was different for Syed Mushtaq Ali compared to the Indian Premier League. In Syed Mushtaq Ali, teams could replace one member of their playing XI during a match, if they thought it will be useful but the team will have to do it before the 14th over of an innings while IPL players didn’t have any overs’ restriction. The BCCI will now have the same rule for its two tournaments. The Apex Council is also going to discuss the upgradation of stadiums before ICC World Cup 2023 to be held in India from October 5 to November 19.
Team flies to West Iindies
The Indian Test team flew taking different flights to the West Indies on Thursday night from Mumbai. The BCCI couldn’t find tickets on one flight, as a result players will be reaching the Caribbean via America, UK and Netherlands. Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be taking flights from Paris and London to the West Indies. The Indian team is going to play two Test matches starting from July 12. There will be one practice game played before the team starts the Test series.
