Deepak Nitrite founder Mehta dies

Industrialist and philanthropist Chimanlal K Mehta, Chairman Emeritus and founder of Deepak Nitrite Limited, died at his residence in Vadodara on Monday. He was 91.

Born in a humble family in Amreli in Gujarat in 1923, Mehta rose to be a pioneer and a visionary with over five decades of versatile experience in chemical trade and industry.

A first-generation entrepreneur, Mehta leveraged his skills in trading and manufacturing to set up Deepak Nitrite in 1971. A release from Deepak Nitrite said on Monday, “He is credited with leading an able Board and laying the foundation of a strong professionally driven organisation on principles of deep-rooted values and commitment to excellence and responsible chemistry.

Even as the next generation led the organisation, he continued to provide the overall strategic business direction to the Deepak Group.”

Mehta was also instrumental in initiating many CSR initiatives and establishing the Deepak Foundation which works in areas of health, education, social welfare, disability, and livelihood.
