One of the iconic scenes in The Godfather is when Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) meets Moe Green (Alex Rocco) in San Francisco to buy the latter’s stake in the casinos run by the Corleone family. The scene is a vital moment in the story as Michael’s demeanour in it foreshadows his transformation into a cold gangster. It also establishes his brother Fredo Corleone’s (John Cazale) misplaced loyalty. The scene from the 1972 movie is trending among fans in Kerala, but the twist is that instead of Al Pacino, Alex Rocco, and John Cazzale, the viral video has Malayalam stars Mohanlal, Mammootty, and Fahadh Faasil. Thanks to deep fake technology, fans are now able to reimagine the iconic film with their local heroes playing the lead roles.
The video looks convincing with a younger version of Mohanlal as Michale Corleone. Fahadh Faasil is uncannily perfect as Fredo. On the other hand, Mammootty’s Moe Green, who does all the talking in the scene, also comes across as genuine.

Fans now are requesting a full version of the film with Mohanlal as Michael Corleone. Demands for even using the voices of Malayalam stars have been made in the comments section. “I didn’t want the clip to end. I can watch the entire movie with these people,” wrote one user.
The Godfather, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, is based on the novel of the same name by Mario Puzo. The movie went on to shape the crime drama genre in film industries across the world. Even in India, many movies were inspired by The Godfather including Mani Ratnam’s Nayakan.
