Following a ninth spot finish in the IPL 2023 points table, Delhi Capitals have parted ways with Shane Watson and Ajit Agarkar, who were part of their think tank as assistant coaches.
“You’ll always have a place to call home here, Thank You, Ajit and Watto, for your contributions. All the very best for your future endeavours,” Delhi Capitals confirmed the same via a tweet.
Agarkar, who had joined the Capitals coaching staff in 2022, is in contention for the Indian men’s cricket team chief selector gig. Watson had also joined the Capitals staff ahead of the 15th season of the league.

Delhi, who had made it to the playoffs for three seasons in a row from 2019 to 2021, have been unable to finish in the top four for the past two seasons since the league has been stretched to 10 teams from eight.
In IPL 2023, Delhi faced crisis even before a ball was bowled with Rishabh Pant being ruled out of the season owing to his road accident last year. David Warner was handed the reigns in his absence. In 14 matches this year, Delhi only managed to win five games.
