Cheap holiday packages to visit the US, Dubai, New Zealand, Goa, Indonesia and Europe: yet another scam to swindle people has been unearthed by the Faridabad Police, with the arrest of four people from Punjab’s Mohali.

The fraud came to light after a Faridabad resident filed a complaint alleging that he was cheated of Rs 1.45 lakh, police said Friday. A case was then registered on June 24 at the Cyber Station Central in Faridabad under IPC sections including cheating.

The complainant stated that he got a call from a travel company which claimed it would arrange a holiday package for him to Dubai and Goa.

The complainant further claimed that men from the company met him in Faridabad and he gave them his credit card details, after which he got a confirmation mail from the accused’s mail ID.

“I had agreed to one of their packages of 75 nights international travel over 10 years and got an email that claimed to be from a hotel. I was informed that Rs 1.45 lakh was used from my card. After this, I went to their Delhi office only to find it shut. I also came to know that many people were tricked into buying their packages in a similar manner,” the complainant stated.

The four men — Tushar, Gajendra, Aman and Vansh — were arrested by the Cyber police station in Faridabad. Explaining the gang’s modus operandi, police said they allegedly cheated people of lakhs of rupees under the pretext of providing holiday packages at a cheaper rate than the market for traveling abroad.

Faridabad Police spokesperson Sube Singh said that the accused would make fake websites by replicating features and names of original holiday agencies. They would have ads on Google and those calling them, assuming it to be genuine, are cheated, he added.

Police recovered three phones, two SIM cards, debit card, a cheque book and Rs 32,000 cash from the possession of the accused.

Police said Tushar is a resident of Bihar’s Samastipur while Gajendra is a resident of Firozabad and Aman is from Hardoi in UP. Vansh is a resident of Delhi. Police said two more accused are absconding and efforts are on to nab them.
