The Ministry of Education is set to host the second Education Working Group meeting in Amritsar, Punjab, starting today, March 15. Participants from 28 G20 member countries, guest countries, and invited organizations such as OECD, UNESCO, and UNICEF will attend the three-day event, which includes seminars, exhibitions, and working group meetings.
One of the seminars, titled “Strengthening Research and Promoting Innovation through Richer Collaboration,” will be held at Khalsa College by IIT Ropar, with contributions from prominent higher education institutions such as IISC Bengaluru, IIM Amritsar, and TISS Mumbai.
The seminar will kick off with a presentation by IISc Bengaluru on “Research Initiatives in G20 Countries,” featuring inputs from G20 members and invitee countries. A multimedia exhibition comprising 90 stalls, with participation from the UAE, China, Saudi Arabia, NSDC, NCERT, National Book Trust, Indian Knowledge Systems Division (IKS), and several start-up initiatives, will also be held.
In addition to the meetings, G-20 delegates will have the opportunity to visit historic sites such as the Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Partition Museum. The district administration is also organizing a Sufi festival at the Gobindgarh Fort during the event.
The border city has heightened security measures in place, and all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth running of the G-20 events.
The focus of the meeting will be on strengthening collaboration in education and research, promoting innovation, and enhancing the quality of education in G20 member countries. Discussions will revolve around challenges and opportunities in achieving these goals, particularly in the post-pandemic world.
The event will be attended by government officials, policymakers, experts, and representatives from educational institutions and organizations.
