The much-awaited Sara Ali Khan-starrer Gaslight, which recently premiered on Disney+ Hotstar, has garnered mixed reviews on social media. While some Twitter users found the psychological thriller to be a predictable whodunit, others criticized Sara Ali Khan’s performance as unconvincing and irritating.

Gaslight, directed by Pavan Kirpalani, follows the story of Meesha, played by Sara Ali Khan, who discovers that something terrible has happened to her father when she arrives at her ancestral home. However, she is unable to convince anyone else of the same. The film also stars Chitrangda Singh as Sara’s stepmother Rukmini, Vikrant Massey as Sara’s father’s right-hand man Kapil, along with Akshay Oberoi, Shishir Sharma, and Rahul Dev.

Twitter users who reviewed Gaslight, labeled the film as “boring and slow,” and called Sara Ali Khan’s performance “unconvincing yet again.” Some Twitter users found the psychological thriller to be a stereotypical whodunit, with a predictable plot that was easily solvable within the first few minutes of the film.

The criticism of Sara Ali Khan’s performance centered on her “open mouth doe-eyed expression,” which some found irritating to watch after the first 30 minutes. A Twitter user also remarked that the film’s poor execution and unengaging plot made Sara’s performance even more lackluster.

Despite these criticisms, a few Twitter users seemed to have enjoyed the movie and praised the performances of the supporting cast. However, their views were overshadowed by the overwhelming negative response from Twitter users.

The negative feedback surrounding Gaslight is a blow to Sara Ali Khan’s career, which had been gaining momentum in recent years with her performances in films like Kedarnath and Simmba. However, the mixed reception of her latest release raises questions about her choice of roles and whether she is capable of delivering standout performances beyond the commercial trappings of Bollywood.

Gaslight appears to have failed to impress the audience, with its predictable plot and lack luster execution overshadowing the performances of its cast. It remains to be seen if Sara Ali Khan can bounce back from this setback and continue to make a mark in the industry with her future projects.
