Govt’s mega health camp for warkaris at Pandharpur from today

The state government will organise a mega health camp from June 27 to 29 to provide free medical services to upto 10 lakh warkaris at the temple town of Pandharpur in Solapur for Ashadi Ekadashi this week, officials said.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and health minister Tanaji Sawant earlier visited the site of the camp on the outskirts of Pandharpur. The camp will provide specialty services in gynaecology, orthopaedics, gastroenterology, ophthalmology and so on. For instance, free spectacles will be provided for those found to be in need, according to state health officials.

A large medical team of over 4,000-5000 specialists, paramedics, attendants and others have been involved in providing medical care at the camp where a war room has been functional and monitored by top health department officials and nodal officers from various districts.

Earlier, the CM had announced an insurance cover for the warkaris during the procession. Ashadi Ekadashi will be celebrated on June 29 and this year also the chief minister will offer prayers at the temple.

From June 6 till date, more than 2.8 lakh warkaris have been treated for various ailments like fatigue and medicines have been distributed, officials said.

To avert any major health crisis, medical teams have been stationed at every two kilometres of the procession route, Dr Radhakrishna Pawar, Deputy Director, (health) Pune circle (Pune, Satara and Solapur) said. Apart from 108 ambulance services, there were two-wheeler services for prompt medical aid and alert authorities about the difficulties faced by some of the warkaris.
