Covering up roadside shanties whenever there is a high-profile event in the city has become a common practice for the local administration in Gujarat.

As Gandhinagar hosted the two-day U20 Mayoral Summit that concluded on Saturday, portions of 4.5-km road leading from S G Highway to the summit venue, Mahatma Mandir, were lined with partitions trying to hide either partially constructed structures, shanties or hutments on the roadside. These temporary structures also had hoardings of U20 and G20 hoardings on them.

Serendipitous 70s

Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, apart from covering serious ground with talks on biotechnology and mixing ethanol with fuel with MoHUA Minister Hardeep Singh Puri at the U20 mayoral meet, was also in for a pleasant surprise when Singh shared that he had a past Tokyo connection. Puri, in his early days after being inducted as an IFS officer, was posted at the Embassy of India in Tokyo, between 1976-1978. Puri on Saturday also took to Twitter, posting about his meeting with Governor Koike and reminiscing of his and his wife Lakshmi Puri’s 70s posting at Tokyo.
