Harshil Mathur

Harshil Mathur, CEO, and Co-Founder of Razorpay, is a trailblazer in the Indian fintech industry, revolutionizing online payments and financial solutions. A graduate of IIT Roorkee, Mathur embarked on a remarkable journey after realizing the challenges in India’s online payment landscape while working at Schlumberger.

In 2014, with a vision to simplify online payments, Mathur, along with Co-Founder Shashank Kumar, founded Razorpay. Their innovation swiftly earned them recognition, becoming one of only two India-focused companies to join the prestigious Y Combinator (YC) program.

Over the years, Razorpay garnered the support of 33 esteemed investors, including Lone Pine Capital, Alkeon Capital, TCV, GIC, Ribbit Capital, Sequoia Capital India, Tiger Global Management, Y Combinator, Matrix Partners, and Mastercard. Their investment contributions, totalling a significant $741.5 million across Series A to F rounds, underscore the confidence in Razorpay’s mission.

Razorpay’s evolution led to the 2017 rebranding as Razorpay 2.0, a Converged Payments Solution company. The firm expanded its portfolio through strategic acquisitions, adding seven companies to its roster, ranging from offline POS solutions to AI-driven fraud prevention and digital financing platforms.

In a significant international stride, Razorpay acquired Curlec, a recurring revenue platform, marking its global expansion. The company introduced RazorpayX, a neobanking platform, and Razorpay Capital, a lending platform, further empowering businesses to manage their financial systems seamlessly.

Today, Razorpay fuels digital payments for over 10 million businesses, including industry giants like Facebook, Airtel, BookMyShow, and Ola. The company reported an impressive year-on-year growth of 65% in FY’23 and aims to solidify its position as one of India’s largest full-stack fintech companies.

While Mathur holds a degree in mechanical engineering, he has been coding since his school days, contributing to the very algorithms that power Razorpay. Beyond the world of fintech, Mathur is a Black Belt in Karate, reflecting his diverse interests and dedication.

Harshil Mathur’s achievements have not gone unnoticed, with accolades such as the EY Entrepreneur of the Year in 2022 and recognition in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia class of 2021. He has also been honored as one of Entrepreneur magazine’s ‘Top 35 Under 35’ entrepreneurs in 2021, among many other prestigious awards.

As Razorpay continues to shape the future of fintech in India and beyond, Harshil Mathur remains at the forefront, driving innovation and transforming the financial landscape. His journey is a testament to the power of vision, dedication, and entrepreneurship.
