India has joined the Agricultural Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM4C), a global initiative started by the United States and the United Arab Emirates to promote climate-smart agriculture and food systems. The initiative aims to increase funding and support for innovative solutions that can help address the challenges posed by climate change.
On the sidelines of the I2U2 – Israel, India, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates – Business Forum in Abu Dhabi, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dammu Ravi signed a letter stating India’s intention to join the AIM4C. There was a first-ever I2U2 Business Forum.
The mission will serve as an example of the advantages of group dedication. It will seek to enhance investments in novel agricultural technology, smart agriculture, and the food chain. Frameworks will be developed to encourage technical debates, knowledge, and expertise.
This will be accomplished by increasing investments at the national and international levels. To develop information sharing and action-related infrastructure for governments, scientists, and other stakeholders.
The signing of the letter expressing India’s intention to join AIM4C took place on the margins of the I2U2 Business Forum in Abu Dhabi. Under Secretary of State Jose W. Fernandez welcomed the Joint Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dammu Ravi, who signed the letter on behalf of the Indian government.
AIM4C seeks to increase investment in and support for climate-smart agriculture and food systems innovation. The initiative has been successful in attracting investments of more than 8 billion U.S. dollars globally. With India’s participation, the number of partners in the initiative has crossed 275, including 42 governments.
The objective of AIM4C is to promote sustainable agriculture practices and help farmers adapt to the effects of climate change. By adopting climate-smart practices, farmers can reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, increase their resilience to climate impacts, and contribute to food security.
India’s decision to join AIM4C is a significant step towards addressing the challenges posed by climate change in the agricultural sector. The country has a large agriculture sector, employing around half of its population, and is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
India has already taken several steps to promote climate-smart agriculture, such as the promotion of organic farming, the use of solar-powered irrigation, and the development of climate-resilient crop varieties. By joining AIM4C, India can gain access to global best practices, knowledge, and resources, which can further strengthen its efforts towards sustainable agriculture.
The participation of India in AIM4C is expected to have several benefits, such as increased investment in agriculture research and development, greater collaboration with international partners, and the promotion of sustainable agriculture practices among farmers. It will also help India achieve its climate change commitments under the Paris Agreement.
India’s participation in the Agricultural Innovation Mission for Climate is a positive step towards promoting sustainable agriculture and addressing the challenges posed by climate change in the agricultural sector. The initiative provides a platform for global cooperation and sharing of knowledge and resources, which can help accelerate the adoption of climate-smart agriculture practices. India’s commitment to sustainable agriculture can help ensure food security and livelihoods for millions of farmers, while also contributing to global efforts towards a more sustainable future.
