As heavy rains with waterlogging continue to disrupt normal life in several parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat, regions in Northwest, Central and West India are likely to see fairly widespread rainfall over the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
Fears of a bad monsoon — arising out of the developing El Nino in the Pacific Ocean — are not coming true just yet. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast normal rainfall for July as well, after June managed to produce reasonably good rainfall, with a late surge making up for a large deficiency in the first half of the month.
Heavy rain pounded the southern part of Chennai and a few other areas Thursday evening leaving a few areas flooded with knee-deep water within just an hour. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), IAF Tambaram has recorded the highest rainfall of 6 cm in the past 24 hours.
