Protest Against Zia
Political rallies and processions are being organised throughout Pakistan and people have been asked not to pay taxes as part of a civil disobedience movement being launched on August 14 against Gen Zia-ul-Haq’s military regime, a prominent Pakistan opposition leader said. Congress Dissidence
The Congress (I) high command is watching in utter helplessness the increasing infighting by its leaders in almost all states. The situation is getting out of control so fast that the new method of dissidence management being tried after the recent changes in the AICC (I), has gone haywire. A major decision after the induction of Kamlapati Tripathi and Rajiv Gandhi as AICC (I) office-bearers was that the leaders of the warring factions from states will not be given hearings in New Delhi. Instead, the concerned AICC (I) general secretaries must go to the states to resolve the differences.

The session adopted a series of resolutions aimed at stabilisation of commodity prices, halting protectionism and increasing the flow of resources to developing countries.
