The trailer of Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani dropped on Tuesday and in the evening, the filmmaker went live on Instagram to chat with his fans about the film. Fans were curious to know if there are surprises cameos in the movie, since Karan’s films always feature guest appearances from actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji. SRK featured in Karan’s last film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil as well.
When asked about SRK, Karan paused and said that the star wasn’t in the film. He said, “No, he is not (in the film) but his love and blessings are always with me. He is family to me and he was the first person to put out the first unit of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.” The filmmaker added that there are “three surprise cameos” in the film. Eagle eyed fans have already spotted Ananya Panday in a dance number in the trailer but it is yet to be known which other two stars feature in the film.
Karan Johar was also asked if he has a surprise cameo in the film and he laughed at the question. He said, “Fortunately, for all of you, I am not in the film. My success as an actor has been pretty much zero.”

Karan Johar already dropped a song titled “Tum Kya Mile” last week and when asked about the next song’s release, he said that the hint was in the trailer. The next song could be “Jhumka” which features in the trailer.
When asked about the inspiration behind the characters of Rocky and Rani in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Karan said they were both inspired by real-life people. “Rocky is definitely inspired by somebody who I can’t reveal right now. Rani is like many people I have met. In fact, a member of the media that I knew very well and dressed a lot like the way Rani does,” he said.
When Karan Johar wrapped the film, he shared an Instagram post saying that the story’s seed came from a story told by his late father Yash Johar. A part of his Instagram caption read, “…the germ of #rockyaurranikipremkahani came to me from a real life family anecdote (something my father once told me about) and then my soldiers helped me create everything I wanted to with my 7th feature.”
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani stars Alia Bhatt, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Ranveer Singh and Dharmendra. The film releases on July 28.
