At long last, the teaser of King of Kotha, starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role, has finally arrived and the promo assures that the film will exceed all expectations.

The 94-second video begins with a voiceover that goes: “People waited for the King’s return. They believed that only the King could save their land from the demon that devoured their children. Finally, the day arrived. The King returned.” As the narration concludes, a mural appears on one of the walls in Kotha; the mural of their king (Dulquer). The promo then swiftly transitions to showcasing the various characters in the movie and provides a sneak peek into the multifaceted world of Kotha.

“This is not Gandhigram… this is Kotha… Here, when I say it’s day, it’s day and when I say it’s night, it’s night,” King of Kotha can be heard saying. Although Dulquer is directly shown in only a few parts of the promo, his presence is subtly felt throughout, thanks to the clever use of voiceovers and the addition of a few quick shots of the actor in the teaser.

Nonetheless, the brief six-second glimpse of Dulquer Salmaan towards the end of the teaser is sufficient to maintain excitement. Covered in blood and gripping a machete, a fierce king is portrayed here, fully prepared to confront his rivals.

Helmed by veteran filmmaker Joshiy’s son Abhilash Joshiy, who is making his directorial debut with the movie, and produced jointly by Zee Studios and Wayfarer Films, King of Kotha is a period gangster film and will hit theatres in August 2023 as an Onam release.

Ahead of the teaser’s release, the makers had unveiled the people of Kotha promo. Accompanied by an electrifying background score, the video introduced each of the film’s main characters.

While Shabeer Kallarakkal, known for his performance as Dancing Rose in Sarpatta Parambarai, will play the role of Kannan, Prassana will be seen as Shul Haasan.

Aishwarya Lekshmi, meanwhile, plays the role of Tara. The film also features Nyla Usha, Chemban Vinod, Gokul Suresh, Shammi Thilakan, Shanthi Krishna, Vada Chennai Saran, and Anikha Surendran in key roles.

Adding to the already growing excitement, actor Shammi Thilakan recently said, “I play the role of Kotha Ravi, who is the father of Dulquer’s character in the film. My portions were mainly shot in Rameswaram and Karaikudi.”

“The story unfolds over several periods. I have two appearances in it. I shouldn’t reveal more details about the film at this time,” Shammi said during a conversation with Malayalam news portal The Fourth.

Earlier this year, Dulquer Salmaan had stated that King of Kotha was the most physically challenging film he had done in a long time.
