To tackle waterlogging complaints during the monsoon, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has established a 24X7 flood control room (with the number 0161-2749120) in its Daresi sub-zone office.

Residents can contact the control room if they witness any issues related to waterlogging or have other rain-related complaints. The control room will remain operational till September 15.

Corporation Commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal has also directed senior officials of all branches not to leave the city without permission during the monsoon so that there is no delay in tackling the emergency situations during the monsoon season. These directions have been issued for all the superintending engineers, municipal town planner, executive engineers, health officers and chief sanitary inspectors, among other officials.

Aggarwal said that a duty roster had been prepared for the flood control room and that staff would remain deputed there in three shifts. The staff of different branches, including the operations and maintenance cell and health, have also been directed not to leave the city without permission.

Aggarwal said the zonal commissioners had been directed to continuously monitor the situation at the ground level and to ensure regular cleaning of road gullies and sewers. The officials have also been directed to ensure proper functioning of pumping stations.

Generator sets will be installed at pumping stations and disposal points to pump out rainwater, especially from the low-lying areas. Sandbags have also been arranged at zonal levels to deal with any kind of emergency.
