A 30-year-old man allegedly shot himself in a hotel room in Ghaziabad Wednesday, police said, adding that before taking the extreme step he had called his brother and said it was his “last day”.

The deceased has been identified as Mayank Tyagi, a resident of Radhakrishna Enclave in Bapudham police station area.

“On July 5, we received information at Crossing Republic police station that a man had shot himself at Hotel Liv Inn in the Tigri Gol Chakkar area. He checked into the hotel around 11 am that day. The deceased’s brother said he had called him and said that he wanted to talk to his parents as it was his last day,” said Ravi Prakash Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Wave City.

“After the call, his brother immediately informed Aakash Nagar police chowki. After noting details of the location, a police team immediately reached the spot, but the man had already died by suicide. Further legal action is being taken.”

Officials said an investigation would determine why Tyagi took the extreme step.
