Seema Deo

The world of cinema mourns the loss of a true luminary as veteran actress Seema Deo, celebrated for her unforgettable performances in classic films such as “Anand” and “Kora Kagaz”, breathed her last in Mumbai on Thursday morning. At 81 years of age, Seema Deo left behind a legacy that has profoundly impacted both Hindi and Marathi cinema. The sad news was confirmed by her filmmaker son, Abhinay Deo, who revealed that her demise was attributed to age-related ailments.

Having contributed her talent to over 80 Hindi and Marathi films, Seema Deo’s acting prowess was celebrated by audiences and critics alike. The distinguished actress passed away peacefully in her Bandra residence, where she had been residing. However, the last few years had been a battle against Alzheimer’s disease, which eventually led to her departure from this world.

Abhinay Deo, reflecting on his mother’s journey, expressed, “She passed away at 8.30-9 am at her residence in Bandra due to old age. She had been withdrawn completely, and eventually it is just old age. Alzheimer’s is such a thing that you stop figuring out how to function. She had dementia leading up to Alzheimer’s and she was suffering from it for over three years. There’s no specific reason (for her death). Due to Alzheimer’s and dementia, the person forgets how to walk. The muscle memory starts coming down and one by one, the organs start shutting down,” Abhinay Deo conveyed in an interview with PTI.

In honor of her remarkable contributions to the world of entertainment, the final rites for Seema Deo are scheduled to be performed at Shivaji Park at 5 pm today. As admirers and colleagues gather to pay their respects, Seema Deo’s legacy will undoubtedly remain etched in the annals of Indian cinema history.

Seema Deo’s artistic journey was intertwined with her husband, Ramesh Deo, a stalwart of both Hindi and Marathi cinema. His passing in 2022, at the age of 93, marked a profound loss for the cinematic world. Seema Deo is survived by her two sons – the talented actor Ajinkya Deo and filmmaker Abhinay Deo. While Ajinkya Deo has graced the silver screen with his presence in notable films such as “Sansaar”, “Indrajeet”, and “Aan: Men at Work”, Abhinay Deo has garnered recognition as a director through projects like “Delhi Belly” and “Force”.

As the industry comes to terms with the void left by Seema Deo’s departure, her legacy of exceptional acting and artistic integrity continues to inspire generations of actors, filmmakers, and cinephiles. The impact she has had on the cinematic landscape remains enduring, and her contributions will forever be cherished as a testament to her unparalleled talent and dedication to the craft.
