The Bengaluru police have arrested seven college students for allegedly attacking an MBA student with machetes and sticks at Nagarabhavi on June 5. The incident came to light after a video of the assault trended on social media.

According to the police, the reason for the attack was rivalry over the love relationship of one of the friends of the victim.

The incident occurred outside the victim’s college when a group of helmet-clad men attacked the MBA student, identified as Darshan. The 11-second footage shows the victim falling to the ground after being struck. Subsequently, one of the attackers approaches Darshan from behind and kicks him, while the main culprit, Sahas Gowda, attacks him on the back with a machete.

Following the attack, the assailants hastily fled the scene. Darshan lodged a complaint against them at the Annapoorneshwari Nagar police station. The police initiated a search operation and successfully apprehended the seven attackers.

Sahas and Darshan attended the same college and had previously clashed with each other regarding the love relationship of one of Darshan’s friends, the police said.

A few days before the assault, Sahas had attempted to attack Darshan, but Darshan managed to evade him, the police said. Darshan had since then allegedly threatened Sahas with retaliation.

Fearful of being attacked, Sahas sought the help of his friends and assaulted Darshan. The police said Sahas’s friends claimed they were unaware of Sahas carrying a machete and had merely accompanied him to confront Darshan as a warning.
