Pimpri Chinchwad police have invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on July 4 against five persons arrested for allegedly planning to kill a person to take revenge for the murder of businessman-activist Kishor Aware (48) of Talegaon Dabhade.

Police have identified the five accused as Pramod Sopan Sandbhor (33) of Talegaon Dabhade, Sharad Murlidhar Salvi (30) of Kalewadi, Amit Jayprakash Pardeshi (31) of Talegaon Dabhade, Mangesh Bhimrao More (30) of Wadgaon Maval and Anil Vasand Pawar (39) of Talegaon Dabhade.

Police have also recovered seven country made pistols and 21 live cartridges from their possession.

A resident of Swapna Nagari in Talegaon Dabhade, Kishor Aware was founder-president of Janseva Vikas Samiti, and a prominent face in the social and political circles of Maval taluka.

He was shot dead by a group of about six persons near Talegaon Dabhade Municipal Council in Pune around 1.45 pm on May 12.

During the investigation, police arrested six persons including Gaurav  Chandrabhan Khalde (29), who is the son of a former corporator, for their alleged role in Aware’s murder.

Meanwhile, on June 26, acting on a tip-off to police naik Ashish Bankar and constable Sumit Devkar, a crime branch team arrested accused Sandbhor and Salvi and recovered 4 pistols and 14 cartridges from them.

Probe revealed that they, along with their five accomplices, allegedly planned to kill a person for taking revenge of Kishor Aware’s murder.

During investigation, police arrested three accomplices— Pardeshi, More and Pawar — and seized three more pistols and seven cartridges.

Search is on for two accomplices Akshay Vinod Chowdhary (28) of Talegaon Dabhade and Devraj of Buldhana, in the case.

A press release issued by DCP (crime) Swapna Gore Thursday stated that all accused persons who were planning to take revenge for Aware’s murder are history sheeters.

Police said the accused were allegedly involved in 26 crimes in the jurisdiction of Pimpri Chinchwad police, Pune rural police and Ahmednagar police. MCOCA was invoked against them as per an order passed by the police on July 4.
