Mumbai on ‘yellow alert’; heavy rain likely in Rajasthan, UP, Patna: Top 5 weather updates

Parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan are likely to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms on Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

“Conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into remaining parts of the country (i.e. remaining parts of Rajasthan and Haryana and Punjab) during next 2 days,” the IMD mentioned in its morning bulletin.

A yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai amid moderate to heavy rains which are expected to continue on Friday.

Meanwhile, Delhi is expected to witness a cloudy sky with light rains on Friday and Saturday, as per the IMD.

    Delhi records below normal temperatures

    A minimum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius was recorded in Delhi on Friday morning, while the mercury rose to a maximum of 34.2 degrees Celsius on Thursday – both three notches below normal. A maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius is expected on Friday.

    The Safdarjung weather station, which the IMD considers to be a marker for the city, recorded 20.8 mm of rainfall from 5:30 am to 5:30 pm Thursday. A relative humidity of 92 per cent was logged by the IMD at 8:30 am on Friday morning.

    According to the IMD weather bulletin, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Bihar on Friday. Several areas of Bihar have been inundated due to the continuous showers.

    The state capital Patna received 5 cm of rain from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm on Thursday. Visuals from the city showed vehicles wading through flooded roads.

    Mumbai on yellow alert for ‘moderate to heavy rain’

    Mumbai received 30 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending on 8:30 am on Friday, as per the weather observatory at Colaba. A yellow alert has been issued for the city for Friday. “Moderate rain in city and suburbs with possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places” is likely to occur in the city today.

    While the minimum temperature is likely to settle at 29 degrees Celsius, the maximum is expected to touch 29 degrees Celsius.

    According to IMD’s prediction, Maharashtra will get isolated heavy rainfall in the next five days.
