The Gautam Buddha Nagar police Sunday arrested a person following a shootout for allegedly robbing a man of his SUV and some personal items at gunpoint in Sector 76 late on Friday.

According to the police, while Naveen Kumar, a resident of Bareilly, was arrested after he got injured in the shootout, two of his accomplices—Omendra Bahadur Singh, a resident of Mirzapur, and Shivendra Singh from Rewa in Madhya Pradesh—managed to escape. A senior police official said the number plate of the looted Creta was removed by the accused.

Harish Chander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Noida, said they received information at police station 113 that some people had looted a vehicle and belongings from a man. Chander said five teams were formed to nab the accused after registering a case.

“This morning, we received information that a Creta vehicle was coming from Sector 78, in which some people were aboard. When the police laid siege to the area, they ran towards Sector 79 through a rough road and fired at the police. One person, Naveen, was injured in retaliatory firing by the police and has been taken to the hospital. Two people involved in the incident have fled from the spot and are being traced. The looted vehicle has been recovered,” Chander added.

Officials said the police have also recovered a pistol and two cartridges from Naveen. The police had registered an FIR on Saturday under Section 392 (robbery) after Anmol Mittal, a resident of Amrapali Princely Estate Society, filed a complaint against unknown men and a woman, saying they robbed his Creta at gunpoint.

Mittal also said the accused took away around Rs. 4500 and a gold chain and forced him to withdraw Rs. 50,000 from an ATM.
