One person in a fire, sparked off by gas leakage, erupted in a house at Goregaon’s Shree Ganesh Rahivasi Seva Mandal on Monday morning.

The victim Harish Chavan (55) was declared ‘brought dead’ at Jogeshwari’s HBT Trauma Care Hospital. No other injuries and fatalities were reported in the incident.

A senior official from Goregaon police station said the “fire erupted due to a gas leakage in the radiator. Investigation is underway.”

Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) was informed about the fire at 8.10 am, but a senior fire brigade official said the fire had been doused by locals even before they could reach the spot.

Speaking to The Indian Express, the official said that the fire had erupted around 7.30 am but locals reported the fire much later. “As per locals, one of the persons living in the house was cooking when a sudden flare erupted. There was no LPG cylinder blast. The blaze spread as clothes and objects in the house caught fire,” the official added, requesting anonymity.

Meanwhile, as per Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) preliminary report, the blaze remained confined to the gas stove and cylinder.
