One killed as ceiling of house collapses amid heavy rains in Pune

One person was killed, and another from the same family was injured after the ceiling of the ground floor of a two-storey house in Pune Camp caved on Monday evening amid heavy rains in the city.

The incident was reported from Dastur Meher road in Pune Camp around 7 pm. Pune Fire Brigade officials have identified the deceased as Stanley D’Souza (50) and injured person as Gerry D’Souza, 60.

“Two persons were trapped under the caved ceiling of the house. One person has died and one more has sustained injuries in the incident. There were two or three more persons in the house at the time. They are unhurt,” said Rohit Ranpise, an official of Pune Cantonment Fire Brigade.

The two people were rushed to Sassoon General Hospital, where one was pronounced dead and another was being treated for serious injuries, Ranpise said.
