Campaigning for the BJP in Chhattisgarh ahead of the assembly elections scheduled for the end of this year, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh blamed the Congress government in the state for “not cooperating” with the Centre to help end left-wing extremism.

Singh was speaking at a rally on Saturday in Kanker district in Bastar region.

“Left wing extremism has remained only in 10 to 12 districts in Hindustan and some of these districts are in Chhattisgarh. The Chhattisgarh government is not cooperating with us. Had they cooperated, we would have ended the influence of left wing extremism from the entire Hindustan,” he said.

Singh also talked about the surgical strikes carried out by India, giving credit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “When the attacks on our jawans in Uri and Pulwama took place, I was the Home Minister. I went to Modiji, and in 10 minutes, he decided to take a decision and our jawans went across the border and killed terrorists in Pakistan. We are not weak any more. We are strong. We can kill not only on this side of the border; if needed we can kill on the other side too,” he said.

He also targeted the state government on a range of issues.

“Modiji wanted to make houses for the poor but the state government in Chhattisgarh never gave their share and the houses could not be made,” he said.

Singh also called on the state government to put an end to alleged forced conversions in Bastar.

BJP, though not in power in Chhattisgarh, has never shown step motherly treatment to the state. Atal ji made Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand for the sake of tribals. We made a tribal woman the President of India. Modi ji set aside Rs 90,000 crore just for tribals, which was never done before,” said Singh.

Singh also outlined central government schemes and development work under the Modi government and said even US President Joe Biden looks up to him. “We fulfilled our promises to scrap Article 370 operating in Jammu and Kashmir and build Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. No other place of worship in the world will be as magnificent as the Ram Mandir being constructed in Ayodhya. People can visit it after January 24 next year,” he said.

He also taunted the Congress for making TS Singhdeo the deputy chief minister just a few months before the elections.”Three months’ lollipop would not change anything. People in Chhattisgarh have decided to uproot the congress government,” he said.
